It is difficult to imagine modern medicine without infusion therapy. Regardless of where we look, whether it be drug delivery, nutritional support, fluid administration or blood substitution, IV therapy is an irreplaceable part of the treatment regime. However, this therapy, as with all others, carries associated risks both for the patient and the health care worker. These risks unfortunately are difficult to identify since their consequences are not immediately obvious and hence are often attributed to other sources.
